French for VCE

VCE French enables students to develop their ability to communicate in French and to gain a deeper understanding of French-speaking cultures around the world. The study focuses on both spoken and written communication, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

Throughout Units 1–4, students explore a range of themes such as personal identity, daily life, travel, social issues, and global citizenship. They learn to exchange information, express ideas, and respond to different types of texts in French. Emphasis is placed on cultural understanding, accurate language use, and real-world communication.

Students also engage with authentic French-language materials—such as articles, films, songs, and conversations—to build fluency and cultural awareness. In the final year, students complete a detailed study on a chosen cultural topic and take part in both written and oral assessments.

Studying French not only strengthens literacy and cognitive skills, but also enhances career opportunities in fields such as international relations, business, tourism, education, and translation.
